23 weeks

The last couple of weeks I started exploding with child! It's a little weird trying to get used to gaining weight every day and having a person inside of you. The other day she actually woke me up during the night because she was kicking so hard, couple that with constantly having to pee and well... she's already keeping me up through the night.

I am so excited to meet her though, to discover her personality, and to put a face to this little person that is inside of me. Motherhood and pregnancy is such a beautiful thing. You fall deeply in love with a person you've never seen or really met. But yet you kind of do know your baby. Every day she gets bigger and I feel even more connected to her. I think she's going to be an amazing person and I feel so lucky to be her mama and to help guide her through this life.

Updates

How far along? 23 weeks 2 days

Baby's size: 11.5 inches long / 1.1 lbs / size of a large mango (yumm!) Well those are the averages, baby girl is actually only in the 20th percentile for size so she's probably a little smaller. Have I mentioned yet how excited I am that she's petite? Not quite sure if it's mostly because I'll be pushing her out of me or because she'll be extra cute and little.

Maternity clothes? Yes and no. I still wear some of my old shirts that are more stretchy but pretty much only maternity or yoga pants or maxi skirts. It's kind of sad though because most of my workout shirts don't fit very well so when I exercise there's always a strip of tummy showing... super classy.

Best moment this week: Valentine's Day with Josh, that man knows how to butter up a woman-let me tell you. But also having Josh feel her move pretty regularly  he gets so giddy whenever he can see or feel her kick and it just makes me love him even more.

Miss Anything? I'm kind of already missing the feeling of being small and petite, I feel like I'm officially in the pregnant and large but only going to get bigger stage. Not too fun since I know I still have a looooong way to go.

Movement: Yeah this girl has lots of energy! I realized that if I push somewhere she almost always starts kicking wherever my hand is, it feel like I'm actually interacting with her. She also almost always wakes up and stars kicking me when I start to talk, makes me smile because she must know my voice already.

Food cravings: Carbs. I think I could eat pasta and bagels every single day.

Anything making you queasy or sick: Mostly just the foods that I threw up during the first 4 months of my pregnancy, which is quite a few things.

Gender: Girl :)

Symptoms: Going to the bathroom now twice throughout the night, feeling full after eating a few bites but finding I'm hungry like every half hour. My lower back usually hurts but as long as I keep up with exercising it's not too bad.

Belly Button in or out? Still in although it went from being open to closed, it looks like a little slit, kind of weird.

Looking forward to: We have a doctors appointment on Wednesday and I made a huge list of questions for my midwife that I'm really looking forward to discuss (I've been reading lots of pregnancy and birthing books lately). I'm also looking forward to hopefully getting a job soon, it's kind of depressing that I've applied to over 40 and still haven't gotten one. So if anyone knows of someone who is hiring in the Seattle area or some sort of telecommuting job just let me know because I'm desperate!

  2. you are carrying well. I understand feeling big because you are growing but relatively speaking you are not huge. I hope you are able to find a job while pregnant.

    1. Thanks Nylse! Yeah it's hard to know if you're measuring bigger or smaller or average, especially when you have nothing to compare to. I know I'm not ginormous and I have a long way to go, which is kind of depressing because I already feel big but I'm sure baby girl will be worth it. Thanks for reading and for your encouraging words, you are sooo sweet!

  6. Hi Lauren,

I don't even know if you have any clue how I am but I stumbled on your blog while looking at some other byu-i alum blogs (I'm sure you've heard of daybook), and I recognized you from one of my classes. Love your blog by the way. Since we have the exact some degree, I totally know how difficult it is to get a job. Making English marketable is hella hard, big yuck. Jeesh, if only I knew when I was a freshman, right? Well over the past few months I've been interested in getting a remote job possibly since my hubby is on his way back to school and we're going to be moving to Norman, Oklahoma, which is about the size of Rexburg. Can you say impossible? So, I've stumbled on a lot of different job postings over the past few months and even some search engines where you can specify remote jobs, and hello, they have writing and editing jobs! So just thought I'd share since we both love books and words and no one else really understands why:) Good luck with everything, hope this helps a little!

http://www.flexjobs.com/ --> this is an ENTIRE search engine devoted to remote jobs. Holy moly amazing.

https://jobs.ziprecruiter.com/job/Full-time-Freelance-Local-Online-Editor-Charlotte/aa39a71e/ --> here's one specific job posting but you can also specify "remote" on the search engine and get a few hits.
