|^^^ Her adorable little face!|
|^^^ And her little bum, notice no boy parts so she's definitely a girl!|
First off, on Wednesday I went to my OB appointment, ECSTATIC to find out the gender. Josh was there, all of our family and friends were texting us asking for updates. It was going to be magical, I just knew it.
Then the nurse called us back and took my blood pressure.
Nurse: "Everything looks good! How far along are you now?"
Me: "19 1/2 weeks."
Nurse:"Oh, you're due for your anatomy ultrasound, we should schedule that for you."
Me: "I'm actually supposed to have that today, I scheduled it with this appointment ."
Nurse: "Nooope, I'm looking at the schedule, we're totally booked for ultrasounds today and your name isn't on here. There must have been a scheduling error..."
Me: On the verge of tears.
Nurse: "I'm going to go get the midwife now..."
We were absolutely devastated. I thought for sure they wouldn't have any openings for a week or two since they're alllways busy. But then the midwife said we could go to a satellite office in the area that only does ultrasounds and has openings every day, she'd just send an order in. Perfect. So I called them, no openings at all today. But they did have one for tomorrow at 9. We took it and our spirits were slightly raised. After all, what difference does one day make?
Well. There are three medical buildings in the Everett, WA area. And all three have women's clinics. Quite confusing. Well we went to the building we thought the ultrasound place was in, wondered around, asked a bunch of people. Then a nurse said, "Oh no! Ultrasounds aren't done at this clinic, you have to go to the other building next door!" By then we were about 15 minutes late to our appointment.
We went to the next building, wandered around, asked for directions, and showed up at the ultrasound clinic where the receptionist insisted we weren't on the schedule. After making a few calls she realized we were at the other, "third" building clear across town.
We finally got to the right place around 9:45 and had completely missed our appointment. Once again, I was on the verge of crying right in public. Those hormones, man...
They were super nice though and offered to squeeze us in later that day. So we went home, ate some brunch, relaxed, then headed back.
And it was sooo worth the wait! Anatomy scans last for a full hour! I got to see my baby scratch her little face, roll over, curl her toes. It was amazing. The best was when we saw her give a big kick and I actually felt it inside me.
She was being quite cooperative until the very end when the tech tried looking for the gender. Baby girl was face planted into the placenta with her legs crisscrossed. Hah, she was getting real comfortable in there. The tech had me start running around and doing jumping jacks to wake her up, and it miraculously worked. When I laid back down she was facing up, bracing herself as if her life depended on it and her legs were wiiiide open.
When I heard the tech say we have a little girl it's like I already knew. Suddenly everything clicked, of course, this was my little girl, who else would it be? Josh had this big grin on his face, I'm sure I looked the same, and our little family just felt perfect.
So there you have it! Josh and I will be the proud parents of a baby girl this June.
